Vera M. Grovier passed away November 4, 2023 at the age of 93 in Urbana, IL.
Born October 26, 1930 in Noble, Illinois to parents Loraine “Pete” and Elsie (Walston) Armstrong, they later moved to Gifford, Illinois. She married Cleo E. Grovier on June 4, 1950 and moved to Rantoul where they raised their family and lived together for the next 73 years.
She leaves a sister, Mary Sergent and a brother, Vernon Armstrong. She was the beloved mother of Cindy Eaton, Jody Grovier, Kim Swanson, and Karin Kinnan. She had five grandchildren: Catrien LeSieur, Amanda Eaton, Jessica Bonner, Jenna Mowl, and Page Overhiser. Vera had eight great-grandchildren; Audrina, Olivia, Nicholas, Evan, Zayne, Brandon, Clark, and Caitlin. She was the Aunt to twelve nieces and nephews.
Vera worked at Chanute Air Force Base and retired as an Administrative Assistant to the General when the base closed in 1993. She was a member of the Chanute Community of Women, Women of the Moose, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Home Extension of Champaign County. She loved gardening, enjoyed bowling, playing Bunko and Euchre. She won several ribbons at County Fair contests for flowers and plants, as well as her canned jellies, sauces and pickles. Vera loved to create casserole and cake recipes, having some published.
Her funeral will be held November 11th, at the Lux Memorial Chapel in Rantoul. Visitation is 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with service following. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Rantoul. Friends and family will gather for food and refreshments at the Rantoul VFW from 1:00 to 2:30 PM.
Vera Grovier will be remembered for her stories, kindness and keen memory.
She is deeply missed.
