Ruth M (Lehe) Unzicker

On July 16, 2023 Ruth “Unzi” Unzicker passed away peacefully at OSF Heart of Mary Hospital, Urbana, IL,  at age 93 after a brief illness.

She was born on December 16, 1929 in Goodland, IN, a daughter of Paul and Hulda (Denler) Lehe.  On May 11, 1952 she married Leonard Unzicker in Remington, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on February 19, 2016.

She is survived by four children, Myron (Connie) Unzicker; Valerie (Paul) Shepherd; Vania (Larry) Hannah and Marlin (Theresa) Unzicker, 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. 

Ruth attended Mennonite Nursing Training School at Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington, IL in January of 1948 and graduated in 1951.  After 6 months Ruth went to work at Mercy Hospital in Urbana, and retired from there in 1988 after 32 years of service!

Ruth and Leonard loved to travel around the country and winter in Florida.  They were avid square dancers and she loved to crochet and do various crafts.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, July 24, 2023 at the Gibson City Bible Church.  Rev. Paul Thomason will officiate.  She will be buried beside her husband at the East Bend Mennonite Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10:00-12:00, prior to the service also at the Gibson City Bible Church.

Memorials may be made to the Gibson City Bible Church.
