Betty Jean (Thomas) Chumbley

Betty Jean Chumbley, 93, of Rantoul, IL went to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Accolade in Paxton, IL

She was born February 27, 1930 in Foosland, IL, a daughter of Carl W. and Esther Mae (Ruark) Thomas.  She married Gene Chumbley on June 6, 1948 in Ludlow, IL.  He preceded her in death
in June of 1994.

 She is survived by 4 children, Mark (Lisa) Chumbley of Rantoul, Reva (George) Woods of Shelbyville, IL; Noel (Linda) Chumbley of Granbury, TX; Beth (Mel) Key of Thomasboro, 9 Grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Joyce Raynsford, and a brother Bob Thomas.

Betty was a 1948 graduate of Paxton High School.  She owned and operated Your Flower Shop in Rantoul until 1996.  She was also an accomplished seamstress and quilt maker.  She was a life-time member of the Church of Christ in Rantoul.  She loved to sing along to old country music as her husband played guitar. Betty loved her family and the grandchildren were the joy of her life.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove, Rantoul.  Wesley Key will officiate.  She will be buried beside her husband at Maplewood Cemetery, Rantoul.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 on Monday evening at Lux Memorial Chapel.
